Meet Tavo
Born and raised on the Nicoya Peninsula, my earliest memories are of going to the beach with my mom and my brothers. I always loved the ocean, but once I hopped on a board, there was no looking back. My life has revolved around surfing, and chasing waves, ever since.
After nearly 20 years in the water, and 12 years of coaching, my goal is to surf with style and joy and to help my students do the same.
My coaching approach is focused on helping my students improve their technique, confidence, and understanding of the ocean so that they can enjoy as many waves as possible.
Beyond becoming a better surfer, it is always my hope that my students will walk away with amazing new memories and a smile on their face.

If you’re interested in working with me in a more intentional capacity, then my custom retreats are perfect for you. We’ll take your surf education beyond a daily lesson by creating a schedule that includes a mix of surf lessons, land training, video analysis, drone footage and my exclusive surf masterclasses.
The content, schedule, and extra activities will be curated to fit the goals of your group. Everything will be focused around helping you leave with real, measurable improvement.
These retreats are for a minimum group size of 2 people and a minimum time commitment of 3 days.
